IPT Conference

The IPT Conference is a separate event during the IPT week, where the participants can present and discuss their solutions to the current year’s IPT problems in a non-competitive manner. It is a hybrid event, so both on-site and remote speakers are welcome participate.

Mission and selection criteria

The IPT Conference is a way to give the floor to a wider IPT community - the participants of the national selection, on-site teams, team guests etc - who worked on the IPT problems but did not have a chance to present their solutions during the physics fights. The IPT Conference became a permanent part of the IPT week schedule in 2020. This format developed from the “free presentations” informal event. It was a way to recognise the students’ efforts and achievements in physics problem-solving in a more conventional format.

Registration for the IPT conference opens in a month before the IPT week. Anyone from the IPT community can register for their 10-minute talk based on the solution of the IPT problem from the current edition. The entries are reviewed by the execom members to be relevant to the current IPT problems list. During the event, the execom nominates a few members of the IPT jury to serve as a panel for the best talk award.

According to the IPT Rules, the finalist teams do not take part in the IPT Conference. The IPT Conference cannot feature talks on problems selected for the Grand Finale to not give an advantage to any of the finalist teams. Because of that, the list of presenters at the IPT conference is finalised after the IPT semifinals and the announcement of the finalists’ problems (check the calendar page for the typical schedule of the IPT week).

After the IPT the execom collects extended proceedings from interested IPT Conference participants, and publicise an official IPT Conference Proceedings book on Zenodo.

Registration

Use this Google form to register for the IPT Conference (the form is active from one month before the IPT week to the IPT Conference itself). We encourage remote participants and attendees to register at least a week before to receive the videocall link.
